UNITED CHURCH WOMEN

All ladies are welcome!

Port Carling United Church

The Port Carling United Church Women's (UCW) group provides a relaxed and unstructured group setting. We meet six times a year and each meeting consists of worship time, a business meeting and planning upcoming events. We enjoy a Pot Luck dinner for the group at Christmas time at the church and in June at Dawn Stephen’s cottage. Some of our meetings may also include a guest speaker on a chosen topic of interest.

In 1962 the UCW was created as the successor to the Women’s Missionary Society (WMS). The first meeting of the Port Carling UCW was held at the home of Mrs. Arnold Stephen on February 21st, 1962. The members of the group offered their time and talents to their church and community.

Today, fifty- six years later the spirit of generosity continues in our present UCW group as we focus on the needs of our church and community. The present UCW caters to Memorial receptions at the church and has fundraisers to support local charities and also helps with projects in our own place of worship. We support World Day of Prayer and co-host the event with Bala United Church every four years.

If you are new to our church please join us at one of our meetings.

Bala United Church

Bala’s United Church Women’s group (UCW) is made up of the ladies of the congregation with a common interest in sharing social time together with Christian overtones. Our meetings, held 3 or 4 times per year, are very casual. We have a small executive consisting of a Chairperson, Treasurer and Secretary who generally lead the way and set the agenda for our meetings and manage any money we raise through various fundraising ventures. Our 2 significant fundraisers are our annual Bazaar held on the July 1st long weekend and our Chili at the Church which we host during the Bala Cranberry Festival weekend. Both these events are huge undertakings and it’s all hands on deck for preparation. Planning and carrying out these fundraisers also offers a time for the ladies to share laughs and fun bonding times while working for their church. A couple of pot luck gatherings also occur throughout the year.

Our group caters to memorial receptions and bus luncheons as requested. Together with Port Carling United we support and co-host World Day of Prayer. In recent years we have also hosted a dinner event for Internationals Womens Day.

Our UCW purpose is to unite women of the congregation for the total mission of the Church and to provide a medium through which they may express their loyalty and devotion to Jesus Christ in Christian witness, study, fellowship and service.
