Port Carling United Church
Choir
Our Musical Director, Dan Brooks, assisted by Joanne Wilson, leads a choir of 16 voices from a variety of choral backgrounds and experiences. Our repertoire ranges from traditional, contemporary and gospel music to Dan’s original compositions created for special occasions.
Dan periodically hosts evenings of music covering various themes including folk music, Canadian, and many other musical styles. The evenings are very casual, always with a packed house, and showcase the amazing talent of our extended church family. We want our music to reflect our affirmation as a diverse, caring and accepting church family where all are welcome. Our intention is to express our openness and inclusion through the diversity of our music.
Choir meets each Sunday morning at 9 a.m. for practice. New members always welcome!
Bala United Church
Knitting Group & Shop
The Knit Wits at Bala United Church meet on Monday mornings from 10:00am - 12:00pm and is open to all women/men in our community. If you do not knit, come anyway with a craft you enjoy, have a cup of coffee/tea and enjoy the conversation and camaraderie.
A number of knitted items as well as other donated gifts are displayed in our Gift Shop. The shop is open on Sundays before and after our church service, on Monday mornings during Knit Wits and during special events at BUC. All are welcome and we love meeting new residents of our community.

3 In 1 / Prayer Shawl
The 3 in 1 group meets on Tuesdays and consists of knitters and crocheters who make prayer shawls for those in need of comfort or solace. All the shawls are blessed by Rev. Sue, during a special time at a Sunday service, before being presented to recipients. The group also make lap quilts and baby quilts that are sold and the proceeds go toward various church needs or to a charity. Another project the group has done was make many beautiful knit dolls that were given to young girls in Honduras by a church member. We are happy to teach anyone who would like to come and join us or you’re welcome to just come and visit us for a cup of tea.

Periodically throughout the year we come together to listen, learn and share.
Our last gathering, we selected “The Caring Congregation.” This fall we will gather once again so stayed tuned for the topic.

Retreats
Each Fall, the women of Bala United Church and Port Carling United Church, get together for a day of laughter, music, delicious food, great conversation and friendship. It is held alternatively between the two locations. Rev Sue invites all participants to reflect on what we care about, and how we can relate our theology to the world of today. Sometimes we even do crafts or chair yoga. It is a day that all the women of both churches, look forward to enthusiastically.

Guitar Jammers
Our Guitar Jammers meet the first and third Thursday of the month.
It is a group of enthusiastic beginner to advanced guitar players. We occasional play in our church service. If you want to learn the guitar and want to have some fun come join us.
